Boys' Brigade ~ National 10 Pin Bowling Championships:

2007 Rules

(updated 2nd April 2007)

CHAMPIONSHIP RULES

Note: this years changes are highlighted in blue

1) General

i. The Championship is governed by the West Anglia Battalion of the Boys’ Brigade.

ii. The Championship Administrator (A member of West Anglia Battalion) reserves the right to amend the following rules on the championship day to suit prevailing problems encountered.

iii. Normal ten pin bowling rules apply, with the FOOT FAULT enforced.

iv. In the case of any query/question/dispute - the Championship Administrator's decision will be final.

v. If a team fails to arrive for the start time of a round of bowling without due cause and notification to the Championship Administrator. The Championship Administrator reserve’s the right to start the particular match at the nominated time without the late team. The late team would then be able to join the match but would have forfeited the ends bowled when calculating their scores and deciding the winner of the games and the match.

vi. Bowling Ramps: The use of Bowling Ramps is NOT permitted and any Bowler found using a Bowling Ramp, without given permission by the Championship Administrator will have their scores void.

However; in order to offer an equal opportunity for a competitor to enter the Championship (and where no undue additional performance advantage is gained), A bowler with a disability, may request usage of a Bowling Ramp PRIOR to the event, if it will enable them to compete.

All requests for using the Bowling Ramp must be made to the Championship Administrator – Prior to the event. Each case will be considered carefully.

vii. Gloves: Fingerless gloves may be worn if desired. ie, the grip to the bowling ball must be made via your fingers. Any bowler using gloves that are not fingerless, will find be warned once. A second warning will result in a forfeit of that game to the opposition bowler.

viii. Byes: Up until 2005 any team fortunate enough to find itself without an opponent, was automatically awarded 3 points. From 2005 any such teams will now need to earn their points. After consultation the winning idea was that teams would be paired against a 'Ghost Team' that are playing on the lane next to them. That lane would play their own match. But the Ghost Team's players would also be setting the scores that the 'Bye' team would need to beat in order to score points.

To select the Ghost Team, a coin will be tossed. Head - use Right Lane, Tails - Use Left Lane

To select the opponents - Heads the team playing ABC, Tails the team playing XYZ
